~ Need a hand with a project? You've come to the right place. No, not Home Depot
One of the key elements of Burning Man is "participation" and many local artists have conceived projects that required teams of people to create. If you have a project in mind and might need some help with it, drop

a note. Also, if you're interested in volunteering but don't know where to start, shoot us an email and we'll see what we can do to hook you up.

~ Ever wonder what to do with your leftover toilet paper rolls?
[posted 4.23.03]
Local burner Francis Wenderlich is planning a cool sculpture this year and sends the following: "I am bringing a burnable sculpture out to the playa this year. I need your help. I need cardboard rolls from toilet paper, wrapping paper, and paper towel rolls. Please email me directly if you would like to help me save these. I can arrange to pick them up once a month."

~ If you belly dance, Sunburn Sarah wants you for Burning Bellies
[posted 4.21.03]
Sunburn Sarah, over in Silicon Valley, is putting a call out for belly dancers, drummers and musicians of all sorts to join Burning Bellies, who took the Center Cafe by storm last year. She's started a discussion group to begin planning for 2003. To join the list, shoot an email to burningbellies-subscribe@yahoogroups.com or email Sarah directly.

~ Yahoo Education Project looking for writers, graphic artists - snarkiness a plus
[Posted 1.31.03]
Members of the Yahoo Education Project, best known for their on-playa pamphlet "How to Get Laid at Burning Man", are looking for writers and graphic artists to contribute to this year's edition. You can check out the 2000 and 2002 editions here. Or check out the artist's profile on co-founder Karen Oeh here. Or sign up for their discussion group here.

~ The Ark of the Nautilus returning to the playa
[posted 1.12.03]
Scott Laurie, aka PT Nemo, a Santa Cruz burner, was a hit on the playa in 2002 with the Nautilus X, a retired S.F. transit system city bus that he turned in to a submarine. He's planning to bring the sub, nicknamed the "Nauty", back out in 2003 and is looking for local folks with any number of skills to help with the project. In particular, he's looking for carpenters, machinists, welders, painters, artists, DJs, electricians, fabricators, and drivers (Class B license required).

You can check out his website NautilusX.net and email him directly at nemo@nautilusx.net. (Photo courtesy Richard Jones.)

~ Going for the world's largest hug in the desert
[posted 1.12.03]
Sky, a Southern California burner, will be looking for help on the playa as she and her team coordinate the world's largest hug. She's still working out the details with the Guinness Book of Records over what they need to do to certify the record, but at the moment she's expecting to need about 3,000 participants to break the record. Her initial thinking is to have the huggers encircle the Man.

Sky has a preliminary website here. Her email address is burn_hug@rawfire.torche.com. And her AIM nickname is Burn Hug.

~ San Jose burner looking for help with the Big Red Ball
[posted 1.2.03]
Robert Marzewski, aka Wizzard, a San Jose burner, has a project in mind that involves a big red ball that he wants to turn into a...well...I'll let him explain it: "The plan is to build a support structure of some sort to get it up above the playa and to allow the sphere to rotate freely. Limited numbers of participants may also be able to climb up and inside of the sphere to 'run' around like a hamster in a ball."

Click here to read Robert's request for brainstormers (and someone with experience working with fiberglass).
