: burning beach film premier

Saturday, Feb. 14, Pacific Cultural Center, Santa Cruz, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Why not spend Valentine's Day with the Man you love? Burning Beach is going back to the Pacific Cultural Center, where it all began, to host a free, first public showing of a new Burning Man DVD, "One Minute To Burn" You'll have time to catch a free film and still spend a romantic evening with any other significant other in your life.

Here's what the evening will include:

In This World
BM2002, 3 minutes, by Agim Lolovic
The problem with most Burning Man films is that they're about Burning Man. Agim Lolovic breaks new cinematic ground by doing film shot after the event. In a dust storm. And he's the only person in it. And it's a music video, which is normally verbotten, but he only did it as a personal project, not to promote a band.

Burning Man Museum presentation
BM2004, about 7 minutes
Veteran Santa Cruz burners Tre Jones and his friend Dan are in the early stages of planning a Burning Man Museum theme camp for BM04. Their mission statement includes the following:
"The purpose of the Museum is to catalog, collect, and document Burning Man Culture and present these findings to the public in an informative manner. We hope to establish a theme camp that will act as an informative center for new Burners as well as old Burners interested in the history of Burning Man and the Black Rock Desert."

Tre and Dan will give a quick overview on what they're planning to do. If you've ever been interested in being involved in a theme camp but don't know where to start, this might be the one for you.

One Minute To Burn
BM2001, 60 minutes, by Paul Andresen and Moe Stoebe
Anyone who attended the Burning Beach Film Festival just after BM2002 will remember the five one-minute-long video clips, including the infamous "RV Aftermath." Paul and Moe compiled 51 one-minute videos (none of them are exactly one minute long) and just got approval from the Burning Man organizers to show and sell it.
This is the first public showing of the entire DVD and Paul is going to try to make it up from Los Angeles to introduce it. If you like it and you want to support the filmmakers, we'll have copies for sale for $20 each. A portion of each sale goes back to Burning Man.

What to bring
Pillows, blankets, whatever you want to sit on. We're trying to do this on the cheap, so bring something comfortable to sit on.

Tickets
No tickets! It's a free showing. We're using some of the money raised from the last Burning Beach Film Festival to cover the rental fee. This is all about helping a Burning Man filmmaker get some visibility for his work. We'll have a tip jar on hand if you'd like to make a donation. Any money we collect will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank in the name of local burners. Thanks to your support, we donated $800 to the Food Bank after the film festival last October. For more info call 831-335-9643, email santacruz@burningman.com. Reminder: The Pacific Cultural Center does not allow food or drinks in the performance hall.

Afterburn gathering
Please join us after the event at an afterburn party at The Crepe Place, right down the street from the PCC. It's a great local hangout that has a full bar and a great menu if you want to grab a bite to eat or if you just want to keep the conversations going after the event. They have outdoor gas heaters, but it would be wise to bring a sweater. If you're interested in attending, please RSVP at santacruz@burningman.com.

Driving directions
If you're coming in from San Francisco or Silicon Valley, take Highway 17 over the Santa Cruz mountains. Highway 17 turns into Ocean Street (don't take the Highway 1 offramp - stay to the left). Go to the fourth stoplight and turn left onto Soquel Avenue. Go to the second stoplight. Turn right onto Seabright and drive three blocks to Broadway. The PCC has a parking lot. The address is 1307 Seabright Avenue. Here's a map.

What can you do?
If you like what you say (or you didn't) or if you have comments, write to the filmmakers. You can reach Agin at jimmydirect (at) hotmail.com and Paul at pandresen (at) earthlink.net.
