:
burner quilt project
We accept
fabric donations. Drop
me an email and I'll make arrangements
to pick them up if you are in the
area.
Regarding
types of fabrics, think washable
and non-stretch: cottons,
linen, corderoy, flannel, even
light-weight decorater fabrics.
I made a comforter from wool scraps
and it holds up well if washed
in cold water. And yes, Jeff, we'll
take blue jeans (as long as they
aren't entirely frayed and they
are washed first).
Thanks
to Burners in New York, Monterey,
Vancouver, and San Francisco for
your lovely donations!
Jo Abbott
is the quilt queen, having made
about 15 quilt tops herself. Pictures
soon on her fantabulous creations.
I have meager offerings compared
to her, but I'm determined to catch
up.
Infinite
thanks to Maureen Ford for opening
Quilter's Playground to us, and
teaching us various quilting techniques.
Maureen ROCKS. We are a small but
dedicated group. DEDICATED is the
key word. The family
shelter opens in December and
we plan to have a quilt on every
bed and baby crib.
A note
from faunron:
"I was looking at all the
fabric scraps I have left over,
and thinking that burners are
notorious for creating costumes
and props out of outrageous fabrics...imagine
all those orphaned scraps waiting
to be used rather than discarded.
As anyone who lives in Santa
Cruz knows, you can't walk down
Pacific Avenue without being
aware of the homeless situation
here. I invite you to join me
and transform your lovely fabric
pieces into warm comforters.
We'll be gifting our creations
to the new Family Shelter which will open
in December 2004."
