Black Rock Arts Foundation offering grants
[posted
3.3.02]
The Black
Rock Arts Foundation has opened its Letter of Inquiry application
for 2003, offering grants of $100 to $500 to fund interactive, community-based
art that would be displayed at venues other than at Burning Man.
Grants are available to artists with an idea for a project, to complete
a project or to get a completed piece to a venue. Just to clarify,
BRAF is not the funding source for art at Burning Man. The grant
application is
here. For more information, contact BRAF at info@blackrockarts.org.

might be that Burning Man is on track for record-breaking attendance.

$185 and $200 tickets - more than 15,000 - have been sold out.

[updated
3.2.03]
Just
a reminder that local burners gather on Monday nights around
9ish at the Poet
and Patriot Pub at 320 Cedar Street in downtown Santa Cruz.
(No children, due to the fact that it's a bar, of course.) Share
a pitcher of ale and shoot the breeze. You never know who'll drop
by.

Karen Oeh and the Yahoo Education Project
Boulder Creek
resident Karen "Mountain Girl" Oeh has been attending
Burning Man since 1999. She is one of the founding members of the
Yahoo Education Project, best known for the informative publication
"How To Get Laid at Burning Man."
She and another co-founder, John Mosbaugh of San Francisco, agreed
to talk about how they came up with the idea for a playa publication
and what they hope to accomplish with it.
Copies of "How to Get Laid..." are available
online.
This is the third in an irregular series of interviews with local
participants, highlighting some of the creativity in the Santa
Cruz
area. Read the interview...

Need a hand with a project? You've come to the right place
[updated
2.13.03]
One
of the key elements of Burning Man is participation and many local
artists have conceived projects that required teams of people to
build. We're rolling out a new section of the website where artists
can post descriptions of their projects and folks looking to get
involved can get a feel for what's out there.
Scott Laurie, aka PT Nemo, is beginning to recruit folks to bring
the Ark of the Nautilus back to the playa for its second year. He's
looking for carpenters, machinists, welders, painters, artists,
DJs, electricians, technicians, visionaries and Class B drivers.
Details about Scottie's project can be found on the volunteer
page.
If you have a project in mind and might need some help with it,
drop us a note at santacruz@burningman.com.
Also, if you're interested in volunteering but don't know where
to start, shoot us an email and we'll see what we can do to hook
you up.

:
include yourself. include others.
Burning Beach
organizers were inspired by Burning
Man to create a community in the Santa Cruz area that promotes
unusual artistic expression - anything from fire spinning classes
and EL wire workshops to theme camp planning and brainstorming
sessions
around a pot of soup. Our motto, "Include yourself. Include others." is
meant to encourage people to not only participate, but do so in
a way that inspires others to find creativity within themselves. Contact
us with your ideas or write the Regional
Burning Man contact for Santa Cruz directly. back
