Pizza At The Health Club: The Power Of Commitment

Simply amazing…I went to the gym at 4:30 for a workout before dinner. I got there and was greeted by a smiling young lady and three pies of hot steaming pizza. “Would you like some?”I didn’t even make it to the locker room yet! It’s the way we do things in our lives. We make a “commitment” to get healthy, or to make more money, or to be a better husband, or wife, or parent, or friend…And then society throws up a challenge. “Just how COMMITTED are you?”And it worked like a charm. About half of the folks walking in went right for the pizza before they went for the weights.Ever try doing cardio with pizza moving down your esophagus? How about heavy weightlifting? At first I was going to say something to the manager on duty – that it was a poor idea to put creatine monohydrate pizza in front of people who have come in to a health club, most of whom want to lose weight. Then I thought about it and realized it wouldn’t change a thing. The people who are TRULY commited to making a change would bypass the pizza and head straight for the exercise equipment.I’m not judging anyone. If I did, I’d have to start with myself. For most of my life I would have been one of the first people to put the pizza down my throat. But here’s the thing – I have a VISION of where I want to be. In the case of exercise, I’ve come a long way from where I was a short time ago. I’m 39 and in better shape than at any point in my adult life.I made the COMMITMENT to good health (and rippling muscles). No pizza is strong enough to get in the way of my commitment.
